Latros

Latros
   One of the great monastic centers of Byzantium (q.v.), located around Mount Latros in Caria (q.v.). Settled first in the seventh century, Latros reached its peak in the early 13th century when it boasted some 11 monasteries and numerous caves for hermits. Paul of Latros, the famous 10th-century saint, lived in solitude in a cave at Latros.
